VETERINARY PHARMACOLOGY

UNIT-1 (GENERAL PHARMACOLOGY)

• Introduction, historical development, branches and scope of Pharmacology. Sources and nature of drugs.
• Pharmacological terms and definitions, nomenclature of drugs. Principles of drug activity:
• Pharmacokinetics - Routes of drug administration, absorption, distribution, biotransformation and excretion of drugs
• Pharmacodynamics - Concept of drug and receptor, dose-response relationship, terms related to drug activity and factors modifying the drug effect and dosage

UNIT-2 (DRUGS ACTING ON AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM)

Chapter 1: Introduction to Autonomic Nervous System.

Chapter 2: Neurohumoral transmission. Pharmacology of neurotransmitters.

Chapter 3: Cholinergic Neurotransmission.

Chapter 4: Cholinergic Drugs (Cholinoceptor agonists or Parasympathomimetics).

Chapter 5: Anticholinergic Drugs (Cholinoceptor antagonists or Parasympatholytics).

Chapter 6: Adrenergic Neurotransmission.

Chapter 7: Adrenergic Drugs (Adrenoceptor agonists or Sympathomimetics).

Chapter 8: Antiadrenergic Drugs (Adrenoceptor antagonists or Sympatholytics).

Chapter 9: Drugs acting on Autonomic Ganglia.

Chapter 10: Autacoids: Histamine, histamine analogues and antihistaminic agents,

intravenous and dissociative anaesthetics.

Chapter 3 : Hypnotics and sedatives.

Chapter 4 : Psychotropic drugs, anticonvulsants,

Chapter 5 : Analgesics - opioid analgesics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Chapter 6 : Analeptics and other CNS stimulants.

Chapter 7 : Drugs acting on somatic nervous system: Local anaesthetics, muscle

relaxants. Euthanizing agents.
