For Veterinary Graduates and above qualification.
- Veterinary Officer/ Veterinary Mobile Officer or Block Veterinary Officer –The Recruitment is done by the state public service commission for assigning Vety. Proffessional Graduates to respective blocks of there state to impart & execute veterinary services to the very grass root level.
- Class II Gazetted Officer (In some states and cadre as Class I also)
- Salary: – PB-II – 9,300-34,800 (Grade Pay-5,400)
This may average to a gross salary of Rs.45,000 – 55,000/Month(Approx.) initially (As on 2020) ,it may vary slightly with different states.
- Veterinary Officers in Medical Institutes – Several medical institutes including premium institutes like AIIMS recruit Vety. Graduates for undergoing research and experiments on different lab animals regarding parameters like safety of vaccines , pharmacological and toxicological tests etc.
1) In AIIMS (as per recent recruitment 2019)
- Group A post
- Salary :- PB-III – Rs.15600 – 39100 (Grade Pay-5,400) This may average to a gross salary of Rs. 65000-70000/Month(Approx.)initially.
2) In PGIMER and other medical institutes
- Group B post
- Salary:- PB-II – Rs.9300-34800 (Grade Pay-4600)This may average to a gross salary of Rs.40,000-50,000/Month (Approx.) initially.
- Veterinary Officers in several other govt. institutes where necessarily animals are maintained like :-
- Administration Training Institutes like LBSNAA etc.
- Police Training Institutes like SVPNPA
and many more.
- Block Animal Husbandary Officer/ Livestock Officer- The Recruitment is done by the state public service commission for assigning Vety. Professional Graduates in respective blocks of there state to impart training & extension services & to execute several govt. schemes to the very grass root level.
- Salary:- Same as that of Block vety. Officer.
- Food Safety Officer (FSO)/ Food Analyst under FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) – This Recruitment is done by FSSAI, a statutory body under M/o Health and Family Welfare, GOI for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacturing, storage , distribution and sale and import to ensure availability of wholesome food for human consumption. Vety. Graduates are eligible for FSO & FA for execution of food safety regulations under FSSAI guidelines to each and every states and districts of India.-
- Class II Gazetted Officer (In some states and cadre as Class I also)-
- Salary: – PB-II – 9,300-34,800 (Grade Pay-5,400) average to a gross salary of Rs.45,000 – 55,000/Month(Approx.) initially (As on 2020)
- Salary – Similar to that of Veterinary Officer
- - Salary- Rs.45,000 – 50,000 (Approx.) at parity with Probationary Officer.
- - Salary – Group A post
In-hand salary of NABARD grade A officers range grossly approx. Rs.61,000/- p.m.
- (Service Selection Board) interview that tests ones medical and psychological fitness. Selected Candidates are then commissioned in the rank of CAPTAIN and are imparted training at RVC centre and College , Meerut. A candidate can get promoted to that of COLONEL that is time bound.
- Salary :- Basic Pay of Rs.15600 + G.P of Rs.6100 + Military Service Pay of Rs.6000 + Non practicing allowance of 25% of basic pay + D.A
+ Kit Maintenance Allowance along with other Army Benefits.
- - Salary – Same as that of Indian Army RVC.
Wildlife/ZOO Vets in Govt. Zoos, National Parks, Wildlife Sanctuaries etc. –Vety. graduates are recruited by several authorities in this sector . They are expected to undergo healthcare sevices , immunization , nutrition and quarantine measures to wild animals and also execute several central or state level programmes encouraging preservation and breeding of endangered species.
- Salary – Somewhere ranges about Rs.50,000 to 60,000/month
For Veterinary Post Graduates and above qualification
- ASRB - ARS(Agricultural Research Scientist) :- This is one of the dream posts of every Vety. student. Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB), under Dept. of Agriculture Research and Extension (DARE),GOI conducts ARS exam every year to recruit vety.post graduates and PhD students for the post of agricultural scientist in several ICAR institutes. The prospect of an ARS candidate is very good and a candidate can rise upto the level of Director General – ICAR or Secretary to GOI too.
- Scientists (Junior Research Fellows , Senior Research Fellows) in Several Institutes like CSIR, ICAR, IISERs ,Krishi Vigyan Kendras(KVKs):- Several central and state research institutes recruits scientists & subject matter specialist of respective subjects of veterinary and animal sciences with PG or PhD in their respective disciplines for undergoing research related work for technological advances in science field.
- Salary – Most of these govt. institutes recruit freshers in PB-III – Rs. Rs.15600 – 39100 (Grade Pay-6,000) This may average to a gross salary of Rs. 65000-70000/Month(Approx.)initially.
- Candidates with PhD and Experience are sometimes recruited directly as Senior Scientist and Project Head at PB-IV- Rs.37,400-67,000/-with Grade Pay Rs.9000/-. This may avg. to a gross salary of Rs.1,10,000/- p.m.
- Professor and Lecturers - A Vety. PG student (with NET qualified) or PhD student can opt for the posts of professors & Lecturers in different veterinary, medical or other science subject related colleges. Initially freshers are assigned in the post of ASSTT. PROFESSOR cum JUNIOR SCIENTIST with PB-III- Rs.15600-39100 (Grade Pay-6,000) and later on promoted to ASSOCIATE PROF. cum SENIOR SCIENTIST. They can further get promoted to UNIVERSITY PROF. cum CHIEF SCIENTIST and can even get promoted to become DEAN of the College or the VICE-CHANCELLOR of an University .
- Civil Services Exams – You can also prepare for UPSC and State PSC if you want to become an IAS, IPS, IRS etc. Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandary is available as one of the optional subjects for Mains exam and can thus help you in better scoring in mains. Apart from other optional subjects, vety. science is advantageous because the competition is far far more less and there is a less burden on the evaluator thus will help you to fetch more marks .
- IFS (Indian Forest Service) is also one of the best service to choose for a veterinarian as it also enables you to serve the wildlife. Veterinary Science is one of the exclusive optional subject for mains exam.
Private Jobs – - Pharmaceutical Companies – There are several leading pharma companies in India like Mankind, Intas, Hester, Virbac, Zydus etc which recruits Veterinarians in the posts of Researchers in R&D dept. , Sales Manager etc and offers higher packages.
Poultry Sector – Several big poultry farms across India recruits veterinarians as Farm Advisors, Veterinary Doctor, Manager etc . E.g:- Venky’s , Suguna, etc. Similarly:-
Dairy Sector
Equine practice
Small ruminants sector etc.
Pet Clinic or Pet practitioner – In urban areas, pet practitioners are really in high demand as most of the families are nowadays choosing pet as their companion but the practitioners are relatively scare. Being a good pet practitioner can fetch you good income and at the same time add to your name and fame in the city you serve. - Animal Feed / Feed Additives Sector :- A masters in Animal Nutrition can open several opportunities in feed sectors as it is one of the growing industries in India. Several leading companies like Waltham (Pedigree), Godrej Agrovet, Cargill etc recruits veterinarians in several high profile posts and offers good package.
